As one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the United States, Vassar has a renowned connection to arts and sciences. The problem is the science department was very segmented with different classrooms and labs scattered throughout the campus. In 2011, the school embarked on creating a new integrated space for their science department affectionately know as “The Bridge”.
The planned 80,000-square-foot structure will span two pieces of campus terrain across the Fonteyn Kill and connect to Olmsted Hall (the current biology building) with a two-level skywalk. There will be modern labs, faculty office suites, flexible classrooms, and gathering places such as a coffee shop and an outdoor seating area.
